Fished a new area today with a friend of mine. It was my second time in the area, but first time fishing it. We found small schools of redfish crashing bait against the shoreline in very shallow water. First cast ahead of the school with a MirrOlure MirrOdine resulted in an instant hook up. We caught several redfish and enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the water. Doesn’t get much better than that.
In preparation for winter the snook have been feeding heavily all through out Tampa Bay. Coupled with low tides kayak anglers are able to sneak up on this feisty game fish and have great days targeting them. For those who wish to target snook, please remember, snook season is indefinitely closed along the west coast of Florida due to the hard freezes that killed so many of these valuable fish several winters ago. Please observe great care when handling them, and take even greater care in reviving them to ensure they swim away strong to fight another day and help repopulate our waters!
I’ve been targeting these fish in Tampa Bay using MirrOLure She Dogs and MirrOdines during out going tides along the mouths of mangrove creeks, backwaters and rivers. The snook have been schooled up and feeding heavily during these early season cold fronts, preparing for a long winter ahead of them. If you want to catch your first snook, now is the time!
Got out with Trent to do some redfishing on a negative low tide. We were in the middle of a full moon period so the tides were very low but the fish were being finicky. We still manage several low-top slot redfish on topwater baits with a few nice trout mixed in. As always today’s baits of choice were MirrOLure SheDogs in bone color.

Water and air temps are dropping here in Tampa Bay, Florida, but kayak fishing on the flats is really heating up! This month has been a spectacular month for redfish action for kayak anglers in Tampa Bay. Large schools of fish have moved in and are feeding well on artificial lures. MirrOlure topwater She Dogs and soft plastic Lil Jons have been the baits of choice. When a school of cooperative fish is located anglers can have double digit days… on one recent day we landed just shy of 20 large top of the slot and over slot fish! That’s enough redfish action to make your arms sore! Winter is on its way and the fish are feeding heavily in preparation. Now is the time go call and book your trip today!
